The City of Madera is the seat of Madera County and home to 57,000 Central Valley residents. The city was originally settled in 1876 by the California Lumber Company; fittingly, the word "Madera" is Spanish for "wood". In the News: Recently in Madera, Rudolpho Rodriguez and Noland Lopez were arrested for the murder of Rafael Valencia Ochoa, who was shot in the chest and killed while in his tractor-trailer. Rodriguez and Lopez were found near the scene with several of Ochoa’s personal belongings on their person.
