Learn More About Amador County, CA

Amador County, California is located in the Sierra Nevada mountain range and lies within the historic region of northern California known as, “Gold Country” or “Mother Lode Country.” The County is named for a miner, Jose Maria Amador, who established a gold mining camp in 1848 close to the present-day town of Amador City.

Aside from its connection to the famous California Gold Rush, including the site of several successful gold mines that have since been registered as state historical landmarks (e.g., Kennedy, Keystone, and Argonaut Mines), it is also believed to be the home of the oldest Zinfandel vineyard in the nation (i.e., the Grandpère Vineyard) and over forty different wineries.

Given its climate, the county also offers residents and tourists alike a whole host of outdoor activities, such as fishing, kayaking, swimming, rock climbing, snowshoeing, and birding.

The Superior Court of Amador County is located in the heart of the county and is responsible for overseeing the majority of legal matters in the area. The single courthouse contains the following divisions:

  • Both civil and criminal divisions (including a juvenile court);
  • The Appeals court;
  • Family;
  • Collections;
  • Probate;
  • Small claims court;
  • Restraining orders; and
  • Traffic violations and/or other minor infractions.

In addition to these divisions, the courthouse website also offers online services (e.g., online fax filing and traffic payment systems), information about filing forms, bail schedules, and local rules, and important general self-help resources and tips.

Finally, local lawyers and lay persons can visit the Amador County Law Library to gain access to various print and online legal resources, such as Lexis/Nexis and CEBOnLaw, for research purposes.

If you are involved in a legal dispute or are facing criminal charges in Amador County, it may be in your best interest to hire a local lawyer for further legal assistance. Although there are a plethora of online resources on the Superior Court of Amador County’s website, as well as a town law library that is open to the public, retaining local counsel who is already familiar with the laws in the area can save you both time and money in the long run.

If you decide to represent yourself and fail to understand local court procedures or laws that are pertinent to your case, it may end up costing you the opportunity to win your case and additional funds to hire a lawyer to resolve your issue.

Amador County lawyers can discuss the laws in your area, explain how they apply to your case, and can help you file a claim. A lawyer can also walk you through the legal process and provide representation in court.
