Learn More About Plainfield, IL

Formerly called “Walker’s Grove”, Plainfield is a village in Illinois located in both Will and Kendall counties. The land was originally settled by the Potawatomi people and was later bequeathed to the United States in 1816 under the Treaty of St. Louis. It was the oldest community in Will County, and it flourished because of the DuPage River. Today, many of its structures and areas are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Plainfield, IL, has 39,581 people according to the 2010 census.

Despite the village’s rich history and cultural heritage, there are still crime incidents reported. In a sample of 100,000 people in 2018, it had 121 violent crimes and 737 property crimes incidents, around 300 more than the cities around it. Plainfield’s violent crimes mainly consist of assault, while its property crimes are mostly thefts.

A patron at the Moe Joe’s Cajun & Caribbean Cuisine on Lockport Street filed a lawsuit against the establishment after allegedly failing to protect him from being assaulted. Tim Jensen blamed the bar staff for not intervening after a drunk patron smashed his head with a beer bottle. Jensen filed his lawsuit under the Illinois Dram Shop Act, which makes alcohol-selling businesses liable for injuries caused by customers intoxicated by alcoholic beverages.
