Learn More About Watertown, MA

Located in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, Watertown is a small city with a population of about 33,000. First settled and incorporated in 1630, Watertown is situated just 6 miles northeast of Boston and, at one time, exceeded Boston’s population. However, Watertown has other claims to fame. The first U.S. school for the blind, The Perkins School, chartered in 1829, was moved to Watertown in 1912. Famous Americans who made their mark on U.S. history are buried in Watertown cemeteries and include Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Oliver Wendell Holmes and R. Buckminster Fuller.
Recently, a former Watertown resident, John Buonomo, was charged for two counts of larceny, two counts of personal use of campaign funds, and for willfully misleading investigators of Middlesex Superior Court. In March 2009, a grand jury indicted Buonomo, the former alderman of Somerville, for laundering over $100,000 in campaign funds for personal use during 2004 through 2008. The outcome of his case is currently pending.
Watertown residents with civil cases usually begin their proceedings in Waltham County District Court. For family law and probate matters, Watertown residents are served by the Middlesex Probate and Family Court which is located in East Cambridge, while juvenile court proceedings are heard by the Middlesex County juvenile court. A Watertown lawyer can help you determine which court is most appropriate to hear your legal matter.
