Medically prescribed for – Enbrel is prescribed for the treatment of moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis.

Adverse reactions experienced – The most common side effects from taking Enbrel are usually mild, including swelling, redness and itching at the injection site.  In rare cases, patients taking Enbrel have experienced fatal blood infections, anemia or have developed nervous system disorders such as multiple sclerosis.

Status of drug – The Federal Drug Administration has recognized the link between these adverse reactions and the drug.  The manufacturer has revised its warning to include the risk of infection from taking this drug.
