Finding an Attorney in Louisiana

When looking for a lawyer, many people turn to attorney referral services.  State bar associations are often a great first step, since many offer lawyer referrals.  However, the Louisiana State Bar Association does not offer an attorney referral service. 

Several local parishes in Louisiana do offer attorney referral services, though.  A few of these services provide referrals for neighboring parishes as well.  The American Bar Association (ABA) has a list of these referral services, and also includes information on what parishes are covered by each.

These lawyer referral services are mainly reached by telephone, and are free of charge.  The initial consultation fee for your first visit with your lawyer is kept low ? in most cases, it is only $25. 

In addition to referral services offered by local parishes, there are also private attorney referral services that are available.  Many of these offer a great service.  These services generally have an online presence, so can be accessed 24 hours a day.  Also, most provide multiple lawyer referrals, and also include information about those lawyers to help you make the right choice.  Finally, these private services are free to use, and most have negotiated a low price for the first meeting with your lawyer.
