I don't use other lead generating services. I've tried them and I won't go back to them. The only one I'll ever use is LegalMatch. There's just no comparison when you look at the other systems that use pay per click.
LegalMatch provides good in-depth information on all potential leads, which are references to potential clients. I've looked at Martindale, Nolo, and other services and frankly, they just don't compare. If you look at the cost per lead or value, LegalMatch has enough upfront information where you can look at a case. It provides information and see whatever potential may be there and provides good contact information for the client.
You get a good balance. You have information coming in to be able to make an assessment on the case. You also get good information about the client and for the most part, unless they don't disclose who they are, you've got some solid contacts. Every now and then, you'll have a few that are not answering calls, are not picking up or their cell phones, or their phone's not working, but for the number of leads generated that come in and the dollar spend, it’s well worth the value.
COVID-19 has sort of helped me just in general, because for some reasons, I think people hate to be trapped with their spouse now, and for some reasons don't want to be married to them. It's just something that happens. By having a presence on the internet, LegalMatch gives people a resource, reaches out to a lot of people whenever they go and start looking at it as a course for a situation that pops up, whether it's any type of issue and they don't know where to go to reach an attorney that specializes in that.
The LegalMatch online presence gives them options. The client gets to go in and have those options to quickly reach out to an attorney. In my case, being in Columbia, it's provided a good resource of people reaching out and coming in and saying, “Hey, I need help with this.” So, it's a good resource. It's great for keeping that presence there in the digital environment that people can utilize and get hold of you.
I like the information that you get from LegalMatch. It is a good quick brief - what they call an elevator brief when I was working with the State Department. You get a good one-pager of what the issues are that the potential client is facing. There is also some of the background information - where they live, the zip code. It helps you understand the dynamics of that area and some of the challenges that they may be facing - their income, the number of children, if there're kids involved or whatever other issues that they may want to indicate there. That one-page synopsis allows you as an attorney to be able to quickly go in, look, and say, “This is probably some of the things that you're going to be challenged with that we need to discuss.”
One of the things that distinguishes LegalMatch from other referral services is the support. It has a great support system. If I've got a question on something, I pick up the phone and I've got my representative. LegalMatch support always answers me and they always work with me. They provide a quick, timely answer for me. With other services, you might as well be pulling teeth if you ever get hold of somebody. Then it's probably going to get you nothing that gives you any type of resolution on any issue. They just want to bill you for it because usually it’s a pay-per-click. Whereas with LegalMatch, it’s just a flat fee, but you get people that come in. I think that's really better, with some of the support that goes with it.
I get anywhere from three to six referrals a week from LegalMatch. Usually, about a third or one out of every nine to ten will turn into leads.
I don't use other lead generating services. I've tried them and I won't go back to them. The only one I'll ever use is LegalMatch. There's just no comparison when you look at the other systems that use pay per click. Even with the references and what's coming out from other systems, there are a lot of paid clicks. If you click on one referral, they give you a client's name and you click on it and it goes, “Oh, by the way, they're filing in the wrong jurisdiction.” Well, they still want you to pay for that lead because you clicked on it and they don't want to refund the money. To me, that is just absolutely absurd!
For 20 leads that may come out of another service, the amount I'm going to pay will be more. While at LegalMatch, I'm probably going to end up getting a few more leads than what I would during the month with the other services’ year. With LegalMatch, I can quickly get rid of bad leads without paying a click fee. With the other services, they are going to charge you whether it turns into something or not.
I'm actually a little behind and I need to catch up on some. But the thing is, you've got a steady supply of leads that are there. Some of them turn into something, some of them don't. I'm a little behind on some now just because business has picked up. It's had a positive impact from that standpoint and I'm at the point now that I'm going to consider either having to start turning people away because I don't have enough time to keep up or I've got to bring in another attorney.
From that standpoint, it's good. I'm at the point where I'm starting to get overloaded and that's a good thing to have. I've got to weigh the options of bringing in another attorney, which is good for business.
For other attorneys thinking of a LegalMatch membership, do it! I refer LegalMatch to others all the time. I just like the system and I like the set-up, I like everything about it. I can't speak highly enough of it. Anybody that ever talks to me and asks me about these referral services, I will tell them the horror stories about the others that I've used and that I won't use anything but LegalMatch.
LegalMatch is in sync with my philosophy in how it does business. Other attorneys believe you can't get personal with your clients. For me, I think that's the wrong answer. That's the problem in business in general - businesses have become so impersonal.
You’re routed to automated responses when you call and you've got to press nine or press whatever, and you don't get to talk to a person. That makes them impersonal and LegalMatch is personable. Every time I've called up my case manager, they're always answering the phone. They're always checking in. You have a live person, not something that's automated. It's not something that you're just left out there flat. If you've got questions or concern with something, they address it. If it's wrong, they fix it with no questions asked.
That's what distinguishes good businesses from bad businesses. That's what distinguishes people in businesses that are going to do more because they take things with personal pride, as opposed to those who think you’re just another number. I don't want that in my business. I don't want my clients to ever think I'm just another number or they're just another number, that I'm just there to get what I can and move on. That's not me! That's not how I do business and I don't associate with that. That's why I prefer LegalMatch over the others. They have a personable relationship with me and I like it.
