
We have some advertising and we’ve done the Yellow Pages and other things like Google, but not as lead generation sources. LegalMatch is the best lead generation source I’ve found.
LegalMatch is a lead source that we know we can use at almost any time. Sometimes people are up late at night because they are in trouble, sometimes at two or three o’clock. If it’s early in the morning you can talk to people you know need help, so you know they’re there 24 hours a day to provide you potential business.
I have recommended LegalMatch to somebody and he’s joined. LegalMatch is a service that, if you’re diligent and put the time in, you’ll get rewards back. It has provided us with more leads, more people -- not every person that we talk to hires us, but sometimes we just encourage them. A lot were impressed by my honesty that they came back and called or hired me later for something else just because I was honest with them, and I wasn’t just trying to get them to come in and pay me.
For attorneys thinking about a LegalMatch membership, it depends on what their goals and dreams are, what they’re looking for in their business. LegalMatch is a lead generation system where you can’t wait a week or two and expect to go back in time, at least for criminal law.
You get the lead and it’s something that you got to be on top of. You’ve got to be aware of your system and be responsive. You don’t have to look at it 24 hours a day, but you can check in two or three hours and see if someone’s popped up asking questions, needing answers.
I would call most of the leads. I don’t call every lead just because I can see by what the person is saying in the lead, that he’s either not a good fit or doesn't need criminal law. But every new person wants to be able to talk to someone or wants a presentation. You try to get that person to either come in or retain you.
The more people you talk to, the better it is, so talk to people. A newer person might not know the intricacies of a gang strike felony case with gun enhancements and stuff, but that person needs to talk to certain people. Get a feeling for each person.
You might not help everyone, but someone might call back on a different situation and say, “Hey my cousin has a traffic matter or DUI, can you help him?” So the more people you talk to politely and respectfully, the more benefits you can get from the LegalMatch service.
There’s a note box on the LegalMatch site that lets a referral know about me or where I can leave details about myself and when referrals are going to call back or when their appointments are. I try to manage all the different boxes so that I’m on top of them. I have a small new box where anyone who’s recently come onto the site looking for help is logged.
I use the templates, as well. I have two different templates that allow me to speed through the process of trying to get my information to clients. I don’t wait for them to call me. Obviously I get the phone number and the client’s details. Once I’ve inputted all my information, then I can either call or text clients. If that doesn’t work, sometimes I’ll even use their email.
During this pandemic, DUIs have gone down, but domestic violence cases have increased a little bit. Business went down a little bit, but the state is opening up slowly and unfortunately that means a lot of people are out celebrating, getting into more trouble than they should. These people sometimes need help from attorneys to save their jobs or their families. I do whatever I can do for them.
LegalMatch gives me lots of contacts. I’ve done a good job and I’ve had several instances over the years where a client refers me to a family member, a friend, or a cousin. In this way it grows the business.

People call in four or ten times a day, maybe even more. But depending on referral activity on site, it could be 50 to 70 a week. Those are just people who have posted their cases and want to talk to someone. I might talk to 15 to 20 people out of the total number who call to see if we can help them.
If you’re diligent and you’re on top of it, you’ll get people to talk to and you’ll get business out of your LegalMatch membership. If I’m getting three to four cases minimum a month from my membership, that could get me anywhere from ten to twenty thousand dollars. Business has slowed down for other reasons lately, but we’re calling people. I had someone here yesterday who is a LegalMatch referral and I retained him, so I’m back to work in this sense.
With LegalMatch, the more people you can talk to and if you do well for them, not come off as someone pushy, the better business you’re going to be able to run from it.
The LegalMatch support team is there for you when you need them. Sometimes they’ll check in during busy days so it’s good to have the LegalMatch app on my phone, I don’t have to go back to the office and my computer to check things or check phone calls. I can see everything on my phone and respond wherever I’m at.
LegalMatch does a great job on all the relevant questions so it’s a great service and I’m happy to be part of it.
