Oneida County, New York, named after a Native American tribe that inhabited the region, is home to over 235,000 residents. At one point, Oneida County’s main product was silverware—specifically the silverware produced by Oneida Limited. However, the company closed its factory and sold of its assets in 2005.
In the News: Recently in Oneida County, 14 year-old Joseph Giacona III admitted to shooting his father, Joseph Giacona, Jr. The boy pled guilty to first-degree manslaughter even though prosecutors were aware of the boy’s alleged mental and physical abuse at the hands of his father. Giacona III originally told investigators that he returned from school and found his father wounded but waited 45 minutes to call 911.
