Arlington, MA was originally settled by European colonists in 1635 as the town of Menotomy (Algonquian for "swift running water".) The town’s name was changed to Arlington in 1867, to honor those buried in Arlington National Cemetery. Located in Middlesex County 6 miles north of Boston, Arlington spans just 5.5 square miles and has a population of 41,100 residents. Originally a thriving agricultural and mill town, Arlington has evolved to a quiet suburban community.
