Race or Nationality Discrimination – Illegal discrimination by employers against employees and applicants based on the employee’s or applicant’s race or national origin.

Racial Profiling – The use of race in determining who is a suspect, most commonly used in police surveillance.

Racketeering – The operation of an illegal business. It usually involves organized crime.

Radio Piracy – Broadcasting on a common radio frequency without the authorization of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

Railroad Crossing Liability – The liability a railroad company faces for harm caused by its failure to maintain normal safety measures at its railroad crossings.

Railroad Laws – Laws that govern all matters related to railroad services.

Random Vehicle Stops – Vehicle stops enacted by the police at random for no reason. This type of stop is a violation of the Fourth Amendment's provision against illegal search and seizures.

Rape – Unlawful sexual intercourse without the victim's consent.

Rape Shield Laws – State laws that expressly prohibit or limit the use of evidence of a victim's past sexual history to undermine that victim's credibility during trial.

Re-Entry Permit – A permit that allows the holder to re-enter the United States after travel of one year or more. This type of permit is normally used by green card holders and conditional residents from other countries.

Re-Opening a Default Divorce – A process that allows a former spouse to contest a default divorce.

Real Covenant – An agreement or contract between two or more parties that limits their use of the property.

Real Estate Broker – A person who is authorized to act as an agent for a buyer or seller in a land sale transaction.

Real Estate Fraud – An act of fraud in which one party intentionally uses false information or false representation in order to gain an advantage during a real estate transaction.

Real Estate Lien – A lien placed on a piece of real estate. Such a lien is typically used to secure a mortgage or a past debt.

Real Estate Listing Agreement – A contract stating the terms under which the broker can promote the seller’s home.

Real Estate Short Sale – A sale in which residential property is sold for less than the outstanding amount remaining in an existing mortgage loan. It is often used as an alternative to foreclosure.

Real Property Color of Title – A property title that may have the appearance of good and valid title to property, but in actuality, there is either no title or a vital defect in the title that makes it ineffective.

Real Property Survey Report – A legal document that clearly indicates the location of all improvements relative to a property's boundaries.

Rear-End Collision – A type of automobile accident wherein one car is struck from behind by the car following behind it.

Reasonable Expectation of Privacy – An actual and legitimate expectation of privacy such as a private conversation or the privacy that is expected in one's home in the absence of a warrant.

Reckless Conduct – Any type of conduct wherein the defendant knew or should have known that their actions would cause harm to another person.

Reckless Driving – The driving of a vehicle at a speed or in a manner that shows an utter disregard for the safety of persons or property.
