Vista residents recently found out that a court reporter was murdered in her own home in San Diego County. Jonathon French is accused of killing his ex-girlfriend by slitting her neck. Medical examiners have determined the cause of death was due to strangulation. Mr. French has prior domestic violence cases from 1992 in which he was accused of battering and trying to strangle a former girlfriend but was not convicted. He was previously a member of the Navy and was discharged due to the 1992 charge. French told one of his friends prior to the murder that he found out that his ex-girlfriend was not being faithful. French pleaded not guilty to all charges but if convicted he faces up to 26 years to life in prison.
