ACORN sought to defend a Jersey City ordinance that limited the number of handguns people could buy per month. ACORN argued that a local statute gave Jersey City officials the authority to enact the gun control measure in the face of rampant gun violence. However, the New Jersey Superior Court’s Appellate Division found that the ordinance was preempted by state gun licensing laws.
