Jackson is the seat of Jackson County and home to just over 36,000 Michigan State residents. Founded in 1829, Jackson was named after former United States President Andrew Jackson. Jackson also boasts that it was the birthplace of the Republican Party touting that the first meeting was held on July 6, 1854 in Jackson.
With such rich heritage, it shouldn’t surprise you that Jackson is home to some very knowledgeable lawyers. Lawyers in Jackson are familiar with taking many different cases to the Wayne County and Michigan State courts including bankruptcy, divorce, medical malpractice, wrongful termination, DUI, and immigration cases.
Recently in Jackson, Apollo Johnson was convicted of second degree murder after stabbing fellow death row inmate Frank Carnell Smith to death. A second degree murder charge was agreed upon since Smith attacked Johnson first but mandatory minimum sentencing laws in Michigan say he will receive a minimum of 30 years more in prison.
If you have pending criminal charges in Jackson then you will be heading to the Jackson County Circuit Court. Michigan State Circuit Courts handle tort, real property, probate, administrative agency appeals, civil, and juvenile cases but retain exclusive jurisdiction over domestic relations and civil trial appeals. If you have an immigration case that needs to be cleared up then you should head to the U.S. Immigration Court in Detroit.
LegalMatch will pair you with a Jackson lawyer for free. If you’re looking to learn more about the law then check out our online law library which has over 4,000 articles but if you can’t find a solution there check out the Forums and post your question there.
