Professional Overview Greater Salt Lake area family law attorney Alicia H. signed on with LegalMatch in April of 2004 as a means to engage new clients through LegalMatch’s partnership with the Utah State Bar. Initially, however, Alicia’s partnership with LegalMatch didn’t go too well. At nearly the same time that Alicia signed on with LegalMatch, she unexpectedly found herself facing a possible life-threatening cancer diagnosis. Not surprisingly, Alicia wanted to cancel her LegalMatch membership to focus on her health and her family. LegalMatch’s Marketing Manager Supervisor, Teejay Clemena, discussed various options with Alicia, and the two decided that Alicia’s practice might be a source of inspiration and strength in the future.
Alicia and TJ agreed to move forward with the LegalMatch partnership. Nearly a year later, Alicia is healthy and has engaged almost 20 cases through LegalMatch. Her solo practice is thriving. Alicia is a positive advocate for her clients, often seeking alternative ways to make the family law process run more smoothly for all parties involved. She adopted this approach in her practice after spearheading an effort to create a case management system solely for family law cases in a state trial court. “A major emphasis of the program was to steer families and their attorneys away from the painful, adversarial process of traditional court proceedings,” says Alicia, “and toward more calm and constructive alternative dispute resolution methods.” Embracing this encouraging and realistically hopeful approach is just one of the ways Alicia puts the interests of her clients at the forefront in her law practice.
Alicia specifically recommends LegalMatch because of its landmark partnership with the Utah State Bar. “Because LegalMatch is the attorney referral mechanism of the Utah State Bar, there is always a heavy influx of potential clients in the LegalMatch system to pick and choose from,” says Alicia. “Anyone with a solo practice knows that establishing a client base is one of the biggest challenges to developing a viable practice. The client intake aspect of LegalMatch is invaluable in meeting this challenge.” Alicia, an avid outdoorswoman and mother of two girls, is doing well, and anticipates that she will continue to use LegalMatch as a primary marketing tool in her practice.
